RP Gilas starts US training series with a “W”

National basketball team RP Gilas started the US-leg of its much-needed training series with a close win, 94-93, over the San Diego Surf at the Hour Glass Arena, Miramar College in San Diego, California today.
Supported by exclusive media partner GMA Pinoy TV, RP Gilas is currently in the US to play with different American ball clubs from April 25-30 as part of the team’s continuous training in their bid to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
RP Gilas earlier made its presence felt in the 21st Dubai International Basketball Tournament with an impressive third place finish. The team also had a successful stint in the Land Down Under where they won five and tied one in the six-game series versus Australian ball clubs.
The American leg action began on April 25 with the visiting RP Gilas squad narrowly escaping with the 94-93 win over the San Diego Surf. This also serves as the team’s historic debut in the American Basketball Association professional basketball league.
At 7:30 pm the following day, the team will face the Los Angeles SLAM at the Los Angeles Southwest College at 1600 West Imperial Highway, California.
RP Gilas’ third game is scheduled on April 27 versus the Riverside Rainmakers at the Martin Luther King High School at 9301 Wood Road, Riverside, California. At the same venue, the team will play the Clayton Showtime on April 28.
No game is scheduled on the 29th, but the team will continue to train for their April 30 game against the South California ABA All Stars at the HAX.
