GMA PINOY TV LAUNCHES DIVA, THE FIRST-EVER KANTASERYE
Date : Mar 1, 2010
This summer, sing to your heart’s desire and laugh out loud to the newest delight on GMA Pinoy TV beginning March 3 with the premiere of the first-ever kantaserye - Diva!
No less than the Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez topbills this much-awaited series that gives primetime viewing a new perspective. Diva, another primetime treat that will definitely lighten up weeknights with its heartwarming story laced with hilarious punch lines and entertaining musical production.
Making Diva more special is the new GMA Telebabad’s star-studded cast featuring Mark Anthony Fernandez, Rufa Mae Quinto, TJ Trinidad, Glaiza de Castro together with music icons Buboy Garovillo of the legendary trio APO, Mr. Shades Randy Santiago and the Queen of Soul Jaya, in her first-ever acting stint on TV.
Adding more fun and color to Diva are Mark Herras, Ynna Asistio and former beauty queen-turned-actress Ms. Gloria Diaz.
Diva, under the direction of Dominic Zapata together with headwriter Don Michael Perez and creative consultant Jake Tordesillas, is set to deliver the kind of amusement that viewers have been searching for on television.
More so, Diva reunites the lovable team up of Regine and Mark who were first paired in GMA Pinoy Tv’s first top-rating Koreanovela adaptation Ako Si Kim Sam Soon, which was also under the direction of Dominic Zapata.
The story of Diva is about the very funny but touching life of Sampaguita a.k.a as Sam (Regine Velasquez), a hideous-looking woman who dreams of becoming a famous singer someday. Sam’s singing prowess and good-natured personality will lead her to find a spot in the entertainment industry despite her unpleasant looks.
But life will not be that easy for Sam because the pretty, sexy and talented ladies like Lady (Rufa Mae Quinto), an upcoming singer, and Tiffany (Glaiza De Castro), Lady’s personal assistant who will eventually become a singer also, will make her life miserable. These women will be Sam’s friends-turned-rivals.
Another character who will keep pulling down Sam’s dream of becoming a singer is her mother, Paula (Gloria Diaz), a former beauty queen and a frustrated singer/actress who blames her ugly daughter for losing opportunity in showbiz.
Unlike her mother, Sam’s dad Elvis (Buboy Garovillo), a former musician-turned-taxi driver, will push his daughter to reach for her dream. He is even Sam’s avid fan and will support his daughter in every step she makes to reach her dream.
Aside from Elvis, people believing in Sam are her best friend Barbra (Jaya), her half-brother Smith (Mark Herras), her neighbor Vanessa (Ynna Asistio) and even George (Randy Santiago), the executive producer of a recording company.
Two young and gorgeous men, meanwhile, will fall for Sam. They are cousins Gary (Mark Anthony Fernandez) and Martin (TJ Trinidad). Gary is Sam’s cool and loyal childhood friend. He is a good lyricist and a good writer. His goal is to find the woman who deserves his love.
Martin, on the other hand, is a rich, charming, boy-next-door kind of guy. He is a good composer and very passionate about his music. His parents want him to focus on classical music but he prefers pop and alternative music.
Who among these men will truly love Sam? Does having an ugly face an impediment to achieve your dream? With all the aesthetic procedures and cosmetic products around, is makeover the best solution to fulfill one’s ambition? And when Sam finally gets a spot in the entertainment industry, will she manage to stand the schemes and intrigues?
Join the Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez as she portrays the humorous, sparkling and awe-inspiring life of Sam in the first-ever kantaserye Diva beginning Wednesday, March 3 on GMA Pinoy TV, the flagship international channel of GMA Network.
