Born To Be Wild's “Wandering Home” and “Deep into the Dark”
Date : Jan 27, 2010
Doc Ferds enters a shadowy world where hundreds of thousands of dark beings thrive. They are weird, winged creatures that have pointed ears, menacing snouts and eyes that glow red in the dark bats.
An amazing fifteen different species of bats roam the dim corners of this cave in Caramoan Island, Camarines Sur. It’s a marvel for scientists to find this kind of bat diversity in a single area. Bats, however eerie, have a huge resemblance to humans even in behavior. We may not be able to hang upside down on cave ceilings, but as fellow mammals, we have more in common with bats that we probably know. Despite the similarities, there are those that view bats as pests that must be eliminated, even eaten. Inside the cave, Doc Ferds stumbles upon bat traps, and tools for harvesting guano “ rich, bath droppings that are also a precious resource.
Even the wanderer has a place he calls home. Wild adventurer Kiko Rustia goes back to his home island of Boracay, where he once spent years of his life. Boracay is world-renowned for its beauty, but if you think you already know this island, you’ll think again. Kiko Rustia takes us to his secret places “ including a sanctuary where wild flying foxes mingle with macaques and snakes, and an enchanted place called the “dead forest”. To honor the island which sheltered him, Kiko also sets out on a mission to help preserve its unique treasures which scientists say are under threat.
