Kapuso Stars and Shows Shine at the 1st MTRCB Awards!

Date : Sep 5, 2009 In a night of glitz and glamour at the 1st MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) TV Awards - held at the Gateway Mall in Araneta Center, Quezon City last September 4 - GMA Network’s stars and shows definitely shone bright.

Michael V. of GMA's long-running gag show BUBBLE GANG won Best Actor while respected broadcast journalist Jessica Soho of KAPUSO MO , JESSICA SOHO won Best Female Host.

"Sigurado ba kayo dito?" Michael V., who was quite surprised when his name was announced, quipped. "…siguro nga, dahil nakikita ng MTRCB na yong foundation ng comedy is basically acting, kaya dahil diyan gusto kong pasalamatan ang MTRCB. You’re such a winner!"

Jessica Soho, on the other hand, revealed, "Of all the programs I hosted, produced and reported on, ngayon lang ako pinatawag ng MTRCB �“ at para sa isang napakalaking karangalan [this is the first time that I was called by the MTRCB �“ and this is a great honor]… Somebody told me that these days, TV is no longer just for entertainment. It also serves as an educator. That’s why we need to make more sensible programs."

I-WITNESS was cited as the Best Public Affairs Show while OBRA's Butch episode was awarded as Best Drama Special. Q Channel 11's BALITANGHALI won as Best News Program.

Special Awards were also given to "Power to Unite" (Recognition Award for Promoting Nation Building ) and BORN TO BE WILD (Special Award for Promoting Environmental Protection).

The awards night is the culmination of six months of selection, screening and event preparation in what the MTRCB hopes would contribute to the improvement of the Philippine TV industry.
