Iza Calzado in SRO Cinemaserye presents 'Rowena Joy'

Beautiful and talented actress Iza Calzado, currently one of the best thespians in the Philippines , plays the lead in GMA’s SRO Cinemaserye presents 'Rowena Joy.' And it's no walk in the park.
Iza plays Rowena Joy (RJ), a transgender in this dramatic/comedic story of love, acceptance and forgiveness.
RJ – played pre-sex change by Paolo Ballesteros – was raised by an iron-fisted father, grows up gay and longs to become a woman. When he finally musters the courage to tell the truth to his father, he is thrown out and disowned.
He finds solace in the company of his gay friends, Mama Frannie and Jessie. With no other way to survive on his own, RJ flies to Japan to try his luck and find a stable job. RJ later undergoes a total sexual transformation and changes his name to 'Rowena Joy.' As 'Rowena Joy,' now played by Iza, she finally gains confidence and freedom from the ghosts of her past.
But then she crosses paths with Gino, her longtime best friend and secret love. Sparks instantly fly between the two and soon, Gino and Rowena Joy are in love. However, Rowena Joy fears that revealing the truth to Gino will lead him to despise and abandon her.
Can Rowena Joy handle the pressure of societal prejudices? Will she find peace in her heart and freedom from the pains of 'coming out?' Will Gino and Rowena Joy’s love affair have a happy ending?
SRO Cinemaserye's new season is led by director Soxie Topacio together with a pool of seasoned scriptwriters headed by Jun Lana. Rounding up the cast are BB Gandanghari, TJ Trinidad, John Apacible, Shamaine Centinera, Rez Cortez, Lawrence Gutierrez, Joseph Paras, Sherrie, Prince Stefan, and Renz Michael Valerio.
